The task

To ensure that the passenger trains of the Hamburger Hochbahn get through the rail network network safely, the rails are regularly cleaned and polished by maintenance carriages. A very analogue world where the carriages are pulled by battery-powered locomotives, whose functions in the cockpit are operated by a switch above the driver’s head. We at zweigrad have taken on the task of digitising the soft key operating system, fully integrating the touchscreen functions with the hardware.

The solution

zweigrad continued to develop the softkey buttons with the specified labelling into a clear and easy-to-use interface. Essential processes were transferred to the full-surface touch display. This enabled operation via both the display and the adjacent buttons. The digital operating system shows drivers very simply which buttons they need to press and when. For example, it provides information on the safety status, the use of the grindstones or the manually adjusted speed. A clear colour system, acoustic signals and a camera view of the rail network provide the necessary orientation to safely control the locomotive.
